Athlete of the Month - Jan 2002

Names: Debi Balmert, Diane Quimper, Mandi Quimper
AKA: First Family of Fitness
Home: LaGrange, Ohio (also known as L.A. Grange)
Occupation: Fitness Center Owners
Ages: Debi - 40; Diane - 22; Mandi - 19

Through the support of Debi's best friend/husband, Terry, she has transformed her life from truck driver and owner of trucking business into "fitness-fanatic-mom" and currently owns a personal training studio and boot camp training center. Her enthusiasm and encouragement inspired her daughters to join her. In 1998, Debi participated in her first Tri-Fitness competition. The following year, 1999, daughters Diane and Mandi joined her in the 1999 WTF World Challenge in Tampa. At the 2001 WTF World Challenge each finished in the top five in the age group. Three days later, Debi, Mandi, Diane, husband Terry and son Dennis (both men fitness competitors) took a challenging mountain climb, Boundary Peak, the tallest mountain in Nevada at 13,100 feet. This November, Debi, tied for first overall in the WTF Orlando Eastern Challenge bench press segment of the fitness skills with 42 repetitions with 60% of her bodyweight. Debi is the captain of "Team Fox Ohio" which competes in fitness challenges. Team Fox enjoys getting ready for events as they train in the snow on the obstacle course in the winter!
