At age 38, Anne made a decision to enter a gym and begin a healthier lifestyle. The goal was to exercise and eat more nutritiously. After 3 months of walking the treadmill (losing 15lbs) and establishing better eating habits (reading good literature such as Oxygen, Natural Muscle Magazine, etc.), Anne became bored working the same routine. She teamed with a trainer, Luke Schwanke, and began a weight workout twice a week. Since then, with a faith-based approach to fitness, Anne feels the Lord has blessed her with the help of many top athletes and trainers. The fear of trying to acknowledge them all by name and leaving someone out has instead led Anne to recognize two key individuals.

Brandi Carrier was her first inspiration. Her profile in Oxygen Magazine ignited the spark for fitness competitions. Soon after, Anne's husband cut an article out of a local newspaper spotlighting another fitness competitor, Lois Smucker/Olney. Anne wrote a letter of encouragement to Lois along with an invitation to meet together. The rest is history. Anne states, "Lois is an invaluable source of support, encouragement, and inspiration. She is the best trainer, training partner, and dearest friend."

Anne feels the Women's Tri-Fitness Challenge is the perfect goal to keep anyone motivated in daily workouts. "Al Rosen is the key person in this organization. His perseverance and dedication is unmatched, " states Anne. She would also like to acknowledge the help of Dr. John Atherton as a coach and wonderful photographer.

Keep in mind, Anne as a fitness competitor is an avocation. Besides the role of wife and mother she owns and operates a hair salon with numerous responsibilities. "It does take personal organization and the participation plus patience from family and friends."
Anne adv ice: "Go out of your element everyday in something. Face your fears head on. Rely on the Lord to be there always. Have faith in Him and yourself."
